Soft Organizer 3.40 Checks for Updates Five Times Faster

03/25/2014

As you may know, not only does Soft Organizer allow you to remove programs and reveal traces they left in the system, but you can also check for new versions of programs you want to keep installed. Thanks to those features, your computer system isn’t cluttered with unnecessary leftovers, and your entire software collection is kept as up to date as possible, providing stable and reliable operation overall.

While developing the check for updates mechanics, we eventually realized that the entire procedure can be made much faster and more precise, greatly increasing the convenience of using Soft Organizer. So we made changes to accomplish this! We developed a new version of Soft Organizer (3.40) that implements an innovative check for updates procedure.

Now checking for new versions is performed much more quickly. We managed to make this process up four to five times faster on our test computers working under 64-bit Windows 7 and 8. On 32-bit systems, the new algorithm doesn’t show such a great improvement, but it still is faster.

Another important novelty in Soft Organizer 3.40 is more precise installed program version number identification. Previously, the utility could mistakenly determine an incorrect version number of an application. Indeed, developers often use their own version numbering approach or store version numbers in several different places with different version numbers in each one. All of this caused the program to make mistakes. Now the version determining algorithm works more precisely and correctly.

Last, but not least, is the ability to quickly switch to program updating. If some new versions were detected during the check for updates (the download links were checked by the moderator), the direct download link is opened in a browser instead of the program’s page at the SoftwareRating.info website as it used to be.
